Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, announced that the Söke cotton has become the 27th product in Turkey to receive geographical indication registration from the European Union (EU). Minister Yumaklı expressed on his social media account, “Söke cotton has become our fourth product transcending borders from the fertile lands of Aydın.”

With Söke cotton, the number of Turkey’s geographical indication products has risen to 27. These products continue to add value to their fertile regions. Here is a list of Turkey’s geographical indication products: Gaziantep baklava, Aydın fig, Malatya apricot, Aydın chestnut, Milas olive oil, Bayramiç white, Taşköprü garlic, Giresun round hazelnut, Antakya künefe, Suruc pomegranate, Çağlayancerit walnut, Gemlik olive, Edremit olive oil, Milas oily olive, Ayaş tomato, Maraş tarhana, Edremit Gulf green cracked olive, Ezine cheese, Safranbolu saffron, Aydın memecik olive oil, Araban garlic, Osmaniye peanuts, Bingöl honey, Bursa peach, Hüyük strawberry, Bursa black fig, and Söke cotton. This development adds significant value to Turkish agriculture and its products.
