In Aydın, this season’s first chestnuts were symbolically purchased at 500 Turkish lira per kilogram. Governor Yakup Canbolat stated that chestnuts are one of the four products that have been granted EU geographical indication certification for the region, highlighting that Aydın ranks first in the country with a chestnut production of 22,715 tons.
Canbolat emphasized that chestnuts cater to both domestic and foreign markets, noting, "Chestnuts are a source of income for our farmers and a high value-added product for our country. It is crucial to combat diseases and pests to maintain our province’s position in production."
Fevzi Çondur, the President of Aydın Commodity Exchange, mentioned that the chestnuts grown in the region are exported to many countries.
