Karaman Agricultural Chamber President Mehmet Bayram stated that more than 1 million decares of cereal crops have been planted in Karaman, and this year there has been an approximately 30% decrease in yields compared to last year. Bayram conducted inspections in the Ekinözü village, where wheat harvesting is still ongoing.
“Karaman Experiences a 30% Drop in Yields”
Bayram reported that wheat harvesting is progressing rapidly following the barley harvest. He highlighted that this year’s crop yield is lower than in previous years, attributed to cold weather in May that hindered wheat pollination and prevented proper development of the ears. He noted a significant drop in yield, indicating that fields that previously yielded 800 kilograms now only produce between 400 and 500 kilograms. Moreover, he expressed concern over rising Input Costs and low prices causing difficulties for farmers. In drought-prone areas, yields have plummeted to nearly 100 kilograms. He estimated that Turkey may experience a 20-25% reduction in wheat production overall.
