Trakya Birlik emphasized the critical importance of ensuring the sufficiency of oilseed and vegetable oil production in Turkey for food security, particularly in the context of global geopolitics.
According to the statement, sunflower production this year is expected to play a significant role in achieving sustainable income levels, thanks to government support and premium payments. It noted, “Considering all factors that affect prices, such as the current customs regime, global yields, potential price levels, currency developments, and financing costs, we have set a preliminary purchase price of 20,000 Turkish Lira per ton for sunflower products with a 44% oil content for our producer partners for the 2024/2025 season based on international contracts. This approach aims to support the stabilization of product prices. For purchases based on crude oil content, prices for products delivered by our producer partners will be calculated using a base price with a 44% oil content and applying a 1.5 multiplier.”
The share of oil sunflower production in Turkey varies by year, but typically, 20-30% of production and 40-50% of products in the sector are purchased by the Union. Harvesting is expected to begin in mid-August and intensify daily, with the bulk of the national harvest anticipated to be completed by the end of September. To date, the 48 cooperatives linked to the Union have conducted a total of 16,766 tons of sunflower trade across 109 purchasing centers and two factories. In the 2024/2025 production season, payments for the purchased products from producer partners will be made through our associated cooperatives based on a payment schedule created according to delivery dates.
