Bafra Agricultural Chamber President Osman Tosuner announced that the harvesting of tobacco, which was planted in May in the Orta Durak neighborhood, has begun. Tosuner stressed the quality of Bafra tobacco and indicated that Virginia tobacco is now being cultivated in the region. He highlighted the high yield and profit margins of this type of tobacco, stating that tobacco farmers can achieve a peaceful farming practice by earning money from their crops. Tosuner noted that approximately 25,000 decares of land in the Bafra Plain are dedicated to tobacco cultivation and emphasized the need for government support for tobacco, similar to other agricultural products.
İbrahim Çalışkan, a tobacco grower from the Orta Durak neighborhood, reported that he has planted tobacco on 35 dönüm (approximately 14 acres) of land. He mentioned that they grow tobacco seedlings in February, plant them in May, and offer the harvest for sale afterward. Çalışkan also called for the same support given to other crops to be extended to tobacco farming.
