Artos Women’s Cooperative has taken an important step to encourage women to engage in beekeeping. In a ceremony held in the district, 250 bee hives were donated to cooperative members with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s Directorate General of Plant Production. Ten female beekeepers received 25 hives each.
Cooperative President Görentaş stated, “There are approximately 178,000 hives in our region, of which 26,000 are traditional hives. Our goal is to popularize traditional beekeeping and obtain high-quality honey. Additionally, we have applied for geographical indication status to promote Van honey.”
The specially designed hives facilitate production. Cooperative President Güleç noted that the donated hives are made of willow wood and are coated with mud. She expressed a desire to increase production in collaboration with female beekeepers, saying, “We want to develop and popularize beekeeping with women to achieve our dreams.”
