A key delivery ceremony for the “KOP STARTING SOILLESS GREENHOUSE PROJECT” was held, prepared by the Meram District Directorate. The ceremony was attended by Meram District Governor Dr. Bayram YILMAZ, Provincial Director Duran SEÇEN, Deputy Head of the KOP Regional Development Administration Kasım AKYOL, Director of Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research Institute İlker TOPAL, Meram District Director İlhan KARTAL, institution heads, NGO representatives, press members, technical staff, and producers.
The “KOP STARTING SOILLESS GREENHOUSE PROJECT” was developed and accepted within the framework of the KOP 2021 Rural Disadvantaged Areas Development Financial Support Program, aiming to enhance soilless farming practices, promote automation systems, achieve higher quality yields, support Rural Development, and contribute to the national economy. However, the project could not be implemented in 2021 due to the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and unfavorable market conditions.
In 2023, the project was revised and reinstated with additional budget contributions. As part of the project, a greenhouse tender was held in 2023, construction will begin in 2024, and installations in the Hatıp and Sağlık neighborhoods have been completed and delivered to the beneficiaries.
Under the project, the following have been delivered to two beneficiaries:
– 1200 m² high tunnel plastic greenhouse,
– Strawberry cultivation benches,
– Growing medium (cocopeat),
– Drip Irrigation system,
– Ventilation and fan system,
– Automation (Irrigation, sprinkler, and misting) system, along with strawberry seedlings.
Each greenhouse has been planted with 24,000 strawberry seedlings, and it is expected to yield 6,000 kg in the first year, 24,000 kg in the second year, and 24,000 kg in the third year. This figure is about five times higher than the yield from traditional open-field strawberry cultivation, offering less labor, easier pest and disease management, and potential for controlled, high yields through the systems.
The greenhouses, financed and supported by KOP, aim to achieve production and Rural Development befitting the century of Turkey and wish to bring prosperity to their beneficiaries.
