Samsun’s Bafra district is one of Turkey’s largest fruit and vegetable production centers. Last Friday evening, heavy rainfall caused the Bafra Plain to become flooded, leading to the rotting of crops such as watermelons, melons, and peppers in the fields. This situation resulted in significant losses for local producers during the vegetable and fruit season.
AK Party Samsun Deputy Orhan Kırcalı, along with AK Party Bafra District President İbrahim Semiz and Mayor Hamit Kılıç, visited the region to meet with producers. They held meetings with farmers in the neighborhoods of Karıncak, Yeşilyazı, Koşu, and Fener, inspecting the damaged agricultural areas.
Producers expressed that sudden downpours are a nightmare for them, complaining about their inability to combat flooding and the impacts of global warming. They emphasized that drainage channels have not been adequately cleared and that effective measures have not been implemented, urging for new precautions to be taken.
Furthermore, the producers requested the deputies to provide new machinery for the plain and to collaborate with the State Water Works (DSI) to clean the drainage channels. They expressed that they have been worn out by the difficulties they face with every downpour.
Deputy Kırcalı assured that efforts will continue in this regard, stating that the governorship, municipality, and relevant units will stand by the farmers. He emphasized that support and all necessary assistance will be provided to the producers.
