Record Grape Harvest in Earthquake-Affected Region
After the disaster in Hatay, producers are trying to recover by cultivating the area. The district of Hassa, located in the Amik Plain, has begun harvesting its famous grapes. Although the hot weather has resulted in low yields, Hassa grapes remain an important source of income for the region. Prices in the vineyards range between 20 TL and 30 TL, and the products are sold across Turkey.
Mehmet Kaya, a fruit broker and farmer in the region, highlights the difference in grape prices. He notes that while grapes are sold at 20-30 TL in the fields, they can reach up to 80 TL in supermarkets. Hassa grapes are renowned in Turkey for their flavor and are considered to be of higher quality and taste compared to those grown in other provinces. However, farmers are not fully compensated for their efforts due to low yields, which is a source of distress for them.
