Mustafa Tan, the President of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK), announced that Turkey is expected to achieve a new record in olive oil production in the 2024-2025 season. Tan stated that Turkey will produce 475,000 tons of olive oil and 750,000 tons of table olives this season. These figures are anticipated to strengthen Turkey’s leading position in global olive oil production.

Tan highlighted that there are a total of 200 million olive trees in Turkey, and with the addition of 2 million new trees compared to the previous year, a significant increase in production is expected. It is projected that with a yield of 20.9 kg per tree, there will be 3.6 million tons of olives produced. Of this amount, 20% will be used as table olives, while the remaining 2.85 million tons of oil olives will be processed into 475,000 tons of olive oil.

Tan noted that Turkey was the second-largest producer of olive oil in the world last season, but with the anticipated figures this season, it is moving toward a new peak. He also mentioned that Export restrictions from last year led to a stock accumulation of 100,000 to 150,000 tons and that new Export policies will be determined while considering these stocks for the upcoming season.

While Tan indicated that the crop yield predictions are not definitive and will be reassessed in December, he emphasized Turkey’s goal to gain a stronger position in the global olive oil market.
