Harvesting in the Northwest region has been completed at a rate of 63%, similar to the East and West Central regions. This surpasses the five-year average by 45% and the ten-year average by 38%.

In the Northwest, the harvest of crops such as wheat, barley, oats, and flax is largely complete. The pea harvest has reached 98%. Wheat has been harvested more than other spring crops, standing at 78%, while barley is at 74%. Oats have been harvested at 69%. Finally, flax is at 58%, and canola is at 36%.

The region recording the highest rainfall in the Northwest is around North Battleford, which received 39 mm of rain, followed by the Maidstone area with 36 mm. The rainfall improved topsoil moisture conditions compared to the previous week. Currently, agricultural land topsoil moisture levels are 45% adequate, 38% limited, and 17% very limited. For forage land, the topsoil moisture is 36% adequate, 48% limited, and 16% very limited. In terms of pasture land, the topsoil moisture is 31% adequate, 47% limited, and 22% very limited.

For pastureland in the Northwest, 18% is in good condition, 58% is in moderate condition, 19% is poor, and 5% is very poor. Despite benefiting from recent rainfall, producers in this region are hoping for more rain this fall to replenish soil moisture and improve conditions for next year.

Last week, the main sources of crop damage were severe winds and waterfowl. Some producers have halted harvesting due to wet conditions. Outside of harvesting, producers in the Northwest are currently storing grain and transporting hay bales.
