The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that Keban Dam, which began operations in 1974, has generated a total of 283 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, contributing approximately 744 billion lira to the economy. This massive facility has provided significant support to the Turkish economy for over half a century.
Keban Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant were constructed to meet Turkey’s energy needs. The construction, which started in 1965, was completed in 10 years. With a capacity of 1,330 megawatts, Keban Dam and HPP can produce an average of 6.6 billion kilowatt-hours of energy annually. As the third largest hydroelectric plant in Turkey, it plays a crucial role in meeting the country’s energy requirements.
Keban Dam and HPP transitioned to full-capacity production in 1982, generating 8.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. Throughout its operational period, the facility has made a substantial contribution to the Turkish economy by generating 283 billion kilowatt-hours of electric energy.
Additionally, Keban Dam is home to Turkey’s first floating solar power plant. The floating solar energy system, established as part of the Kuzova Floating Solar R&D Project, contributes to both hydroelectric and solar energy production.
The floating solar power projects established on the Keban Dam Lake are expected to continue supporting energy production in the future.
