Four Iowa State Cyclone women’s basketball players have agreed to collaborate with the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) as fans of pork. The four players, all sophomores, Audi Crooks, Kelsey Joens, Addy Brown, and Alisa Williams, have signed NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) agreements with the IPPA.
Audi Crooks, hailing from Algona, Iowa, made history last year by becoming the first freshman in Iowa State women’s basketball to be named an All-American. This NIL partnership is not Crooks’ first experience with the Iowa Pork Producers Association; she won the IPPA Best Producer Award during the 2023 Iowa Girls Basketball Tournament, scoring an impressive 49 points to lead Bishop Garrigan High School to victory in the championship game. Crooks has garnered a lot of attention for her exceptional basketball skills and engaging personality and is excited to be a part of the surge in popularity for women’s basketball this season.
Kelsey Joens, a guard from Iowa City, has a personal connection to the pork industry, having worked at her family’s restaurant, Joensy’s, during her childhood. Her father took over the restaurant from her grandfather in 2005, specializing in pork tenderloins, which Joens proudly showcases in her promotional videos.
Iowa’s traditional breaded pork tenderloin sandwich and the annual IPPA Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich Contest attract food enthusiasts from across the Midwest each year.
Teammate Alisa Williams, a forward from Denton, Texas, is also a pork lover and is thrilled to have a NIL agreement to promote one of her favorite foods. “I’m really excited about this!” Williams exclaims. “I love bacon. Seriously, I eat bacon every day.”
Cyclone forward Addy Brown expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity to collaborate with the Iowa Pork Producers Association, especially after enjoying the ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ promotion last year. “I’m very excited. I think this is a great opportunity,” Brown says. “I saw the advertisement last year, and I found it quite funny, so it’s awesome to be a part of this and see how it turns out.”
Recently, the women participated in the ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ casting calls. They opted not to be part of that promotion, but they all share a love for pork. Videos from their participation can be viewed online.
Although the women chose not to participate in the ‘Purchase Moore Hamann Bacon’ promotion, the search continues for student-athletes interested in joining this partnership. A series of videos will be aired every Monday at 10 AM until October 7, featuring Myles Purchase, Tyler Moore, Tommy Hamann, and Caleb Bacon, who will serve as a panel of judges as their friends strive to join the pork lineup. October is National Pork Month, also known as ‘Porktober.’
In conjunction with the NIL partnership, the Iowa Pork Producers Association is donating $1,000 worth of pork to each participant’s preferred food bank. The players will decide where the donations will go.
