Trakya Development Agency Secretary General Mahmut Şahin evaluated the efforts regarding the cultivation of local hybrid sunflowers. Şahin stated that they are conducting joint projects with seed companies, exchanges, and universities in the Thrace region to increase the cultivation of domestic sunflowers. He noted that despite the drought experienced last year, domestic sunflowers performed successfully, leading to a higher preference for them this year.
Şahin emphasized that local sunflowers are competitive in the market, and due to their good yield, cultivation has increased in many provinces. Birol Tarar, Chairman of the Board of Trakya Tohum Inc., mentioned that efforts to develop local sunflower varieties are ongoing and that they have received positive feedback regarding producer satisfaction.
Farmer Alperen Uzlar expressed his satisfaction with the domestic sunflowers he planted for trial purposes and stated that he plans to plant domestic sunflowers in all his fields next year. He highlighted the aim of positioning these successful efforts in the international market as well.
