The noticeable increase in fruit and vegetable prices during the summer period is a result of damages caused by drought and high temperatures. The General President of the Turkey Agricultural Chambers Union, Şemsi Bayraktar, states that Climate Change is damaging agricultural production. Extreme heat causes vegetables to burn in the fields, while wildfires negatively impact production as well. In Adana, vegetables such as melons, watermelons, tomatoes, and peppers have suffered damage, while grapevines in Manisa have also been affected. Agricultural engineer Irmak Özden notes that high temperatures induce stress in plants, leading to a decline in the quality of the produce. This situation is also affecting the prices of fruits and vegetables.
