Hazelnut Farmers Reduce Costs with Harvest Nets: A Sustainable Solution

Tekkeköy District Governor Enver Hakan Zengince visited hazelnut producers to examine the harvesting net system. Zengince stated that the net harvesting method ensures that hazelnut branches and trees are collected without damage, while also significantly contributing to production by preventing the accumulation of plant cover on the ground.

Filiz Turna, an agricultural engineer at the Tekkeköy District Agriculture and Forestry Directorate, highlighted that using harvesting nets reduces costs and facilitates the removal of moisture and rainwater, thereby preventing the formation of aflatoxins.

Hamit Kırbaş Alioğlu, one of the producers using harvesting nets, mentioned that this method has lowered his costs and improved product quality. He explained that by using the net system for harvesting, they have reduced labor costs, enhanced product quality, and significantly decreased their overall expenses.

Ali Yılmaz also pointed out that the harvesting net system provides significant long-term savings. He noted that it is possible to harvest 8 tons of hazelnuts by spending 200,000 lira instead of paying 300,000 lira in daily wages, saving costs while covering 30-35 acres of land with the net.
