Harvest Season Begins in Kelkit: Rainfall Impacts Crop Yields
Farmers in the Kelkit district, known for their extensive land and fertile soil, have commenced wheat harvesting on an area of 80,000 decares this year, expecting a total yield of 5,000 tons. However, in Dereyüzü village, farmers report that unseasonal rains and floods have adversely affected their crops. As a result, it is estimated that the wheat and barley yields in this village could drop by half. Farmers are continuing their efforts with the support of the District Agricultural Directorate, noting that crops on irrigated lands will yield higher results. Farmers from Dereyüzü village express concerns about the negative impacts of excessive rainfall and flooding. Local farmer Hüseyin Algül indicates that this year’s yields may be low, while village head Aslan Güney confirms that the yields have dropped significantly.
