Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality officials announced that Gaziantep’s famous culinary delight, Menengiç coffee, has been granted the EU geographical indication certification. Notably recognized for its natural and healthy properties, Gaziantep Menengiç coffee aims to increase its global recognition. This certification was published in the Official Journal of the EU on July 11, 2024, alongside the Manisa Mesir Macunu. Once the registration process is complete, Gaziantep Menengiç coffee will be officially protected, raising the total number of products from Gaziantep with EU geographical indication certification to three. The Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and the Ezogelin Women’s Cooperative are also working on applying for EU certification for other products, including Antep Baklava, Araban Garlic, Antep Lahmacun, Antep Pistachio, Antep Pistachio Paste, Oğuzeli Pomegranate Molasses, Antep Bulghur, and Antep Muska. Plans are underway to apply for certification for an additional 20 products in the short term.
