I sacrificed a day of harvesting to accompany my son to Hartpury University in Gloucestershire, where he began his studies in Bsc Agriculture and continued playing football at a high level. His previous experience with the Boston United youth team and Louth Town prepared him well for this next chapter. The university, known for its sports programs, offers opportunities for both education and football development, with connections to the Premier League.
My son’s transition to university life has been smooth, and he is enjoying the social aspects alongside his studies. Unlike my own agricultural college experience, which was more practical, modern education has evolved with a focus on Technology and theoretical learning. The variety of subjects covered in the agriculture course at Hartpury will provide him with a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
In my day, socializing at college involved plenty of drinking, but my son seems to be enjoying the affordable drinks at the student bar. It’s a different experience from what I had, but I am confident that he will make the most of his time at university, both academically and in his football pursuits.
