Fantastic Canadian Farm Tour Launched by AITC: Explore the Best of Canadian Agriculture
Canada’s Farm Tour returns for its fourth season, showcasing a completely different season in Canadian agriculture for the first time. From October to December, Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C) invites students from 10 member provinces to experience the fall operations in Canadian farming and enjoy the harvest.
The fourth season kicks off on October 4 at a sugar maple farm in New Brunswick, featuring stops at a pumpkin farm in Newfoundland and Labrador, a blueberry farm in British Columbia, and the northernmost greenhouse apple orchard in the Northwest Territories.
Luree Williamson, AITC-C’s interim director, states, “With the tour taking place in the fall, we’re excited to showcase a different side of agriculture. Harvest time is a period of preparation for holiday seasons and a change in the rhythm of farm life. This season offers new learning opportunities for students to explore the seasonality of food production in Canada.”
The tours are designed for all grade levels, targeting students from kindergarten to sixth grade. They will be offered in both English and French, with simultaneous translation and closed captioning accessibility provided. Teachers will also receive curriculum-aligned digital activity books for each tour to keep students engaged.
