In the districts of Devrekani and Hanönü in Kastamonu, farmers are currently harvesting the potatoes they planted in April and May. Workers are gathering the potatoes into buckets, then filling them into sacks to load onto tractor trailers. Across Kastamonu, potatoes are planted on approximately 7,350 acres, with an expected yield of about 25,000 tons. The price of potatoes is finding buyers at 15 Turkish lira per kilogram, and farmers express satisfaction with both the price and yield.
In Hanönü, a project supported by the Kastamonu Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry has led to the planting of 4 tons of winter ‘Madeleine’ potatoes on a 10-acre plot. A ceremony was held in collaboration with the Hanönü Municipality and Acica Mining Company to mark this initiative.
The Mayor of Devrekani stated that potatoes have become one of the important agricultural products of the district, noting that potato production is rapidly increasing and yields are high. Potato producer Necmettin Bakar shared that they planted potatoes on 30 acres this year and faced challenges due to drought, but the yield has been good. He confirmed that they are selling potatoes at a price of 15 lira per kilogram and expressed satisfaction with this year’s yield.
