Buckwheat Harvesting Season in Gümüşhane: When to Expect It
In the Öbektaş district, İlbeyi Demir, who has been engaged in farming for many years, states that in addition to barley, wheat, and beans, he has been growing buckwheat for the past three years. Demir notes that cultivating buckwheat is easier compared to other crops, making it more efficient to plant buckwheat instead of wheat.
Tayyar Gürsoy, who contracts local farmers to grow buckwheat, mentions that this year they have planted a total of 12,000 decares. He aims to achieve a yield of 1,200 tons and reveals that they are shipping buckwheat to various regions across Turkey, starting from Gümüşhane, and even planning to export to Cyprus and soon to Erbil, Iraq.
Gürsoy highlights that they have started to sell the product they previously imported to international markets, asserting that their successful efforts have allowed them to establish a presence in the global market.
