Bayer Crop Science has announced its acquisition of a canola processing and packaging facility in Coaldale, Canada, from HyTech Production. This transaction is set to be completed on November 1.
Antoine Bernet, President and CEO of Bayer Canada, stated, “As we grow our canola business, we’ve been looking for ways to enhance our processes and assets. This facility is ideally located to support our operations and future expansions as we anticipate an increase in canola demand.”
HyTech Production will retain its other assets and continue its hybrid seed production, maintaining relationships with existing customers while seeking new opportunities. Cameron Van Roon, co-CEO of HyTech Ltd., emphasized their commitment to growth and quality, stating, “We aim to provide long-term value to our customers and seed producers.”
Currently, Bayer utilizes third-party contractors, including HyTech, for its canola processing and packaging operations. With this acquisition, Bayer plans to further optimize its operations between its main seed production facility in Cranbrook, Canada, and seed cleaning facilities in Lethbridge.
Bernet added, “This acquisition will provide greater control over the production process and benefit farmers who rely on our seeds.” Once the acquisition is finalized on November 1, Bayer will assume ownership of the facility and integrate the current HyTech employees into its workforce.
