Duzce Municipality is leading the way in efficiently utilizing the fertile agricultural lands in the region through various projects. With the ‘Agriculture Academy’ initiative, Duzce Municipality aims to promote qualified farming practices and educate farmers, contributing to the development of agriculture and the growth of the sector.
Planting Medicinal and Aromatic Herbs
Under the leadership of Dr. Faruk Ozlu, the Mayor of Duzce, agricultural activities are being diversified on a 121-decare land owned by Duzce Municipality. On 22 decares of land at the Agriculture Academy in Mergic Mahallesi, corn is being planted, while 6 decares are designated for the production of medicinal and aromatic plants. The team at the Agriculture Academy is preparing to plant thyme and rosemary seedlings, as well as lavender, sage, and melissa.
Production Greenhouse for Ornamental Plants
As part of the efforts conducted by the Department of Parks and Gardens, the foundation for a plant rooting greenhouse has been laid at the Agriculture Academy. The greenhouse, measuring 24 meters long, 3.5 meters wide, and 2 meters high, will have a capacity of 55,000 plants. Duzce Municipality will produce its own shrubs in the greenhouse, growing the necessary ornamental plants to beautify the city’s green spaces and parks, resulting in significant cost savings.
