A group of twelve women from the UK farming industry are gearing up to embark on a 75km cycling challenge across Embu Country in Kenya. Organized by the development charity Farm Africa, the GROW for Good Challenge aims to raise £75,000 to support regenerative agriculture and economic empowerment for women in eastern Africa.
The initiative, which stands for Growing Resilience and Opportunities for Women, will contribute towards enhancing access to resources, improving farming techniques, and fostering sustainable income generation for female farmers in the region. Judith Batchelor, chair of the charity, highlighted the importance of the challenge in making a real impact on the lives of female farmers and their families.
Beginning on 20th October, the team will engage in hands-on activities on local farms, collaborating with Kenyan women farmers to exchange knowledge and experiences. The challenge will culminate in a roundtable event in Nairobi, bringing together female industry leaders to raise awareness about gender empowerment in the global food system.
Farm Africa’s focus on empowering women and young farmers to tackle Climate Change and economic challenges is at the heart of initiatives like the GROW for Good Challenge.
