Türkiye Agricultural Chambers Union (TZOB) President Şemsi Bayraktar recently assessed the hazelnut sector as the harvest season approaches.
Bayraktar noted that hazelnut producers are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the purchase price for hazelnuts, stating that Climate Change is expected to lead to a decrease in hazelnut yield. He emphasized that Turkish hazelnuts are indispensable to the global chocolate sector and hold a significant place in international markets.
He highlighted that producers are expecting a satisfactory base price due to rising costs and urged the Turkish Grain Board to promptly disclose the pricing and purchasing policy.
Furthermore, Bayraktar expressed the need to increase the area-based support amount for hazelnuts, which has remained unchanged for the past decade, to align with current conditions. He asserted that the future of Turkish hazelnuts depends on the renewal of orchards.
Bayraktar pointed out the importance of the hazelnut sector and stressed the necessity of solution-oriented practices to support hazelnut producers and ensure the Sustainability of the sector.
