Deutz-Fahr 6150.4 with RVshift Transmission: A Unique Farming Solution

Postnatal electronic surgery has transformed the Deutz family’s CVT transmission into a faux powershift that aims to offer the best of both worlds. This gearbox, originally a TTV but now identifying as an RVshift, has gained 20 pseudo speeds without the customary combination of friction plates and clutch packs. In presenting as a powershifter while retaining stepless capabilities, this non-conformist either offers the drivetrain traits of both or neither.

The “full powershift concept” setup is available on six four-cylinder tractors in the Deutz-Fahr range. The focus is on the 156hp 6150.4, the largest of the 6.4 models, which is largely similar to its siblings, the 136hp 6130.4 and 147hp 6140.4. The transmission comes from Deutz’s smaller fruit tractors, making these models more affordable compared to the heavier-duty 6.4 TTV versions.

The RVshift is essentially a CVT with no extra electronics or sensors, just modified software to simulate a powershift experience. Operators can easily switch between manual and auto mode using the armrest-mounted joystick in the cab, navigating through 20 virtual ratios. The tractor also features an adjustable speed range, a heavy-duty setting for increased torque, and a auto-engaging reducer for heavy draft loads.

The benefits of the RVshift concept include increased market reach for Deutz without the need for developing a new powershift transmission, resulting in cost savings on R&D. The CVT Technology offers efficiency, fuel economy, and potentially longer lifespan without clutch plate wear. However, it may be more complex and expensive than traditional transmissions.

The Deutz-Fahr 6150.4 boasts a Maxivision cab with excellent visibility, user-friendly controls, and optional features like advanced transmission settings and hybrid spools for loader work. While the RVshift software is a convincing simulation of a powershift tractor, it may not be the ideal choice for those seeking a simpler solution or more power.

Overall, the Deutz-Fahr 6150.4 with RVshift Technology offers a unique combination of stepless drive and powershift capabilities, appealing to buyers looking for a versatile transmission option in the mid-range tractor market.
