The Ankara Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry launched the “Our Directorate Educates, Little Fish Inspectors Are Growing Project” to increase fish consumption among primary school-aged children and raise awareness about minimum catch sizes and seasonal bans on fishing. The project was held in Keçiören with the participation of over 300 students.

As part of the United Nations’ “2022 Year of Small-Scale Fisheries and Aquaculture,” the project aims to reach over 1,000 students across 8 districts in the province. The initiative began in Keçiören and will extend to the districts of Şereflikoçhisar, Haymana, Polatlı, Kahramankazan, Beypazarı, Kalecik, and Akyurt.

The opening ceremony took place at Halit Fahri Ozansoy Primary School in Keçiören. During this event, students participated in activities featuring mascots from the animated film “Captain Penguin and Friends,” where they received training on catch sizes, seasonal bans, fish consumption, and animal welfare. Topics such as sustainable seafood consumption and the benefits of fish were also covered. At the end of the ceremony, all participating students were awarded certificates of participation, and items such as “Little Fish Inspector” themed t-shirts, hats, rulers, balloons, and coloring books about aquatic life were distributed.

The educational sessions were conducted using the “Mobile Education Truck” from the Water Ambassadors Association, operating under the General Directorate of State Water Works. The opening meeting was attended by officials including the Deputy General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mehmet Nuri Yılmaz, Ankara Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Bülent Korkmaz, Provincial Director of National Education, Harun Fatsa, District National Education Director, Ayhan Işık, President of the Water Ambassadors Association, Özgür Aydıncak, along with school administrators and teachers.
