1430 kg of Hamsi Seized in Illegal Fishing Operations
Izmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry Fisheries and Aquaculture Branch teams conducted an inspection against illegal fishing on September 16, 2024. The inspection took place on the Urla-Karaburun highway, resulting in the confiscation of 11 kg of octopus, 3 kg of sea slugs, and 1,430 kg of anchovy. A total administrative fine of 56,153 TL was imposed on three individuals.
Fisheries will now be conducted according to planned quotas. Species such as anchovies will be caught within designated quotas, ensuring the Sustainability of marine resources.
With the new regulations that came into effect on September 1, 2024, fishing practices have been regulated. To enhance Sustainability and combat illegal fishing, inspections will be intensified using technological tools and trained teams.
The importance of inspections for protecting water resources and sustainable fishing was emphasized, alongside the need for public awareness in these matters.
